EXAMINATION PREPARATION

1. CREATE AN APPROPRIATE STUDY ENVIRONMENT

a) The location: Never study on a bed. Beds are meant for relaxing. Sit on a study table to study attentively. Also, it is advisable to sit in ample light to avoid headaches or eye strain.

b) The study table: The only things that should be on the table are books relevant to the subject that you are studying (no other books), stationary, table clock (not a phone), a table lamp (if required), some nuts and a water bottle. This is important to avoid distraction.

2. BE REALISTIC: Before setting a goal, be realistic of your expectations from studying.

3. SMART REVISION: Write down the answers while revising and keep a track of your writing speed by using a stop watch every time you write. This will help you finish your exam in time.

4. TAKE BREAKS: It is very important for your mind to relax from the exhaustion of studying continuously. Take a 15 minute breather, every two hours of study. Go out of the room. Go for a walk, eat something healthy, listen to your favorite music, stand in the balcony or backyard for some fresh air.

5. PLAN YOUR SCHEDULE: Do not procrastinate and leave everything to the last minute. It will overwhelm you later, causing anxiety.

6. SMART SNACKING: Brain needs more energy while you study to retain more. Snacking while studying is important to keep your blood-sugar level balanced. When you sit for studying, keep smart foods like nuts, eggs, green salads, yogurt, peanut butter, chocolate and fruits like bananas, apples and berries with you to munch while you revise.

7. STAY HYDRATED: This is one thing we least care about while studying. Replace your coffee with green tea.  Other choices are water of course, fruit juices and milk.

8. GET PROPER SLEEP: Do not disrupt your sleep pattern during examination. It will only leave you drained and restless. Sleep for atleast 7 to 8 hours daily.

ON EXAMINATION DAY

  1. Be confident.
  2. Do not rush: Get ready and eat your breakfast gently.
  3. Do not discuss the subject just before the examination with anyone. It is also a bad idea to read before the examination.

DURING THE EXAMINATION

  1. Sit calmly while waiting for your question sheet and practice deep breathing to relax.
  2. Do not read all the questions as soon as you recieve your question paper to avoid panic. Read only the first question. If you know it, answer if not read the next question and so on.
  3. Divide your time according to the marks each question carries.
  4. Do not pay attention to other students taking additional sheets or finishing the exam before you. Maintain your pace.
  5. Concentrate on writing the answers more than looking at the wall clock or your watch every few minutes.

AFTER THE EXAMINATION
